I joined the committee in July 09 and attended my first face to face committee meeting on 16th August 09. What a meeting that was!

Maggie Aldwin picked me up from home and we travelled up the M1 to Milton Keynes for that first meeting, leaving my poor husband to sort out the washing and ironing (what brilliant timing!).
The meeting was due to start at 1.00pm, but by the time we had caught up on our news it was a little bit late to get going.  We got stuck into the business and I covered a lot of pages with my notes, which later I turned into the official minutes of the meeting!

My connection to the Group? Maggie! We were at grammar school together.  Our friendship started in a most unlikely way when Maggie replaced me in the school netball team the day I had to attend my cousin’s wedding.  I was never asked back into the team after that, but we became firm friends despite that.
Maggie’s family became my ‘second family’.  I spent more time at her house than I did in my own.  Maggie and I took a few holidays together – most memorably when we went to Yugoslavia in our very early 20s.  What a wonderful time we had.  We stayed in a little holiday resort called Cavtat – they were just beginning to develop the area for tourists.  It was a few miles south of Dubrovnik – a beautiful city.  It was so peaceful – so much has changed since then.  I do wonder if we would recognise the area now?
Then, when Maggie married I was one of her bridesmaids.  How special did I feel?  Four years later Mandy was born! Maggie seemed bewildered with how to deal with her new very sick baby, and obviously there was no support group at that time and no one to turn to for advice. It was the first time I had seen anyone with ichthyosis.
